Our Guest Speakers
David Stubbs, B.Eng., P.Eng.
Director
Canada Masonry Design Centre
David is the Director of the Canada Masonry Design Centre (CMDC). David joined the masonry industry in 1998 as the Masonry Design Coordinator for the Ontario Masonry Contractors’ Association (OMCA). In January 2003, the technical services and support offered by David through OMCA expanded to a national level and the Canada Masonry Design Centre was formed. CMDC provides technical support and services to their masonry contractor members and the design community. David’s background in engineering, in combination with his strong working relationship with masonry contractors, has facilitated the development of numerous seminars, advanced engineering courses and hands-on workshops for the effective design and construction of masonry structures.
David was heavily involved with the development of the 2004 CSA Masonry Standards and continues to serve on these technical committees. He is also the Vice Chair of CSA S304.1 Design of Masonry Structures and CSA A165 Series CSA Standards on Concrete Masonry Units. Under David’s direction and extensive involvement, CMDC published the most compressive textbook available for Canadian designers, “Masonry Structures – Behaviour and Design” authored by Dr. Robert Drysdale and Dr. Ahmad Hamid. Most recently, David was involved with the development and launch of a new structural design software; Masonry Analysis Structural Systems (MASSTM). David also continues to be involved with many masonry research programs across Canada.
